Reader Query : Foundation for dry, flaky skin

A reader recently asked me for recommendations for foundations for  extremely dry skin. Since I’m in the oily girls gang, my knowledge of hydrating foundations isn’t as good as ones for oily skin! Can you suggest good foundations for very dry skin?

As far as I know, The Body Shop foundations (Especially Extra Virgin minerals) is wonderful for dry skin and so is MAC Mineralize Satin Finish. Clinique makes excellent foundations for all skin types too.

Thank you Ankita for Putting my query on the blog, Now i can have the opinion of all your readers. I’ve tried revelon colorstay but it did not work for me. I am thinking to buy extra virgin cream compact, or the liquid foundation in this range. Lets see if they work for my skin.

I am in the dry skin gang too… (but not very dry)… i hv been using Oriflame’s Matte foundation so far and its a good buy… offlate for around 3 months i m using.. Revlon Photoready Foundation.. which I am seriously in love with… it gives medium coverage and lasts for th whole day.. jus touch up required… many hv been asking me u r looking fresh even at the end of the day… so think u can give it a try… Maybelline’s BB Cream in Radiance is also good and instantly brightens up the face…

One important point would be.. never forget to apply a moisturiser before you go ahead with your foundation.. very important for dry skin beauties.. so that the foundation doesnt appear cakey on the skin…

Ankita Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation is extremely good for dry skin, gives a dewy finish and heard MUFE HD also gives dewy finish making it another option for drier skin girls.

And please also review Lush face Tinted Moisturizers.. I don’t have the lush store in my city so i am planning buying them online but i am so confused about the shades and types. Please if you get that product then review it for sure.

I would advice you not to get the lush face tinted moisturizer. Mainly it comes in two shades and difficult to work with for our Indian skin tone, you could look it up in you tube . Try it in store before purchasing them. I am just like you dry and flaky and its very very hard to get a good foundation because it looks cakey and highlights my dry patches. I use mainly tinted moisturizer because it works best for dry skin. Like Janis said moisturize moisturize moisturize. Use night creams to limit flakiness. Recently i tried Maxfactor miracle touch liquid illusion foundation ( sheer to medium coverage) , its not dry skin friendly but yeah this was the only thing that matched my skin tone. I guess dry skinned people are unlucky to find a full coverage foundation. Try using Mac fix spray or you could try using glycerin to water in the ration 1;3 ( I am not sure about this ratio, did it long time ago) after your foundation routine. I agree Mac satin finish wasnt great for me either. There are a few Bobbi Brown foundation and Laura Mercier TM which was creamy and worked well for my dry skin. Did you get the revlon photoready for dry skin because it comes for oily skin too?

my suggestion would be..MAXFACTOR Second skin …coz i used it and found it to be oily…so it might suit dry skin :)

Thank you esha for your suggestions. I did not try revlon photo ready yet but I’ve heard that it comes for dry skin. I am planning to buy the body shop virgin mineral range foundations, lets see how they work..

Do try the Clinique 3 step for dry skin. It did wonders for my skin . If its above your budget atleast consider buying the exfoliater. Just sweeps away the dead skin , reduced flakiness and you will have a beautiful canvas to apply makeup. Definitely do get the Clinique exfoliater ad a good primer

lancome teint miracle is amazing. It’s incredibly dewy and add a light layer of powder on top and it’ll last all day. go and check it out.
