MAC Paint Pot Constructivist : Review, Swatch and FOTD

MAC Paint pots are one of the most popular cream eye shadows/primers and I’ve been a fan since my first one, Indianwood. Today I’m reviewing my favorite shade from the permanent range, a gorgeous plummy brown – Constructivist.

Price : Rs 1100 for 5 g

What MAC says about PAINT POTS :

A highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colourfast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking. Blends smoothly over the lids. Cream-based, can be mixed with M·A·C shadows and liners.

My take on the product

I’ve previously reviewed the shade Indianwood HERE in detail. Constructivist is much the same in formula except for the texture. Indianwood was much creamier than Constructivist which has a slightly stiffer texture. I’m guessing its an issue with my particular piece because the one I swatched in the store was creamier. Even with its stiff texture, its still an excellent product! I need to rub a little on the surface to let the warmth of the fingers melt the product for an easy glide on the lids. It gives good color pay off in single swipe and color intensity can be built up by adding another layer. It sets pretty quickly so the blending needs to be quick. It can be worn alone or as a base for eye shadows.  When used under eye shadow, it delays creasing and increasing the wear time. It is smudgeproof and creaseproof, my oily lids love it! The best part is that after 8-9 hours of wear it fades off in a clean manner without creasing.

The only con is that its a tub packaging and one needs to dip the fingers to pick up the product. It sets very quickly so you’re left with a waterproof, smudgeproof product on your finger tips! But I don’t really mind it since its one of the few products that stays on well on my oily lids and a little extra effort doesn’t hurt!

The shade Contructivist is lovely plummy brown with a pearl finish. It is my favorite product for a quick eye to be paired with a stronger lip. Its not too dark yet not too light so it gives just the right amount of depth to the eyes. The shade has a good balance of cool and warm and works with almost all lip colors! It looks quite natural on the lids and I think its a fabulous shade for Indian skin tones. Its a MUST-HAVE product and shade from MAC and I’d highly recommend it!

Look : I have used Constructivist all over the lid with Lancome eye shadow in Envie de Chocolat in the crease to get a clean blend –

 Overall Verdict

MAC Paint Pot Constructivist is gorgeous plummy brown shade with a pearl finish. The shade gives natural depth to the eyes and looks stunning when worn alone paired with a stronger lip. The formula is little dry but its an issue with my piece (the tester was creamier), it sets to a smudgeproof, creaseproof and waterproof finish within seconds of application. Its perfect for using as a base under eye shadows too to delay creasing. MAC Paint pots are a must-try and Constructivist is MUST-HAVE shade!

I think you can find something similar in Inglot eye shadows – 423 Pearl is close but a little darker.
