Orange is one trend that refuses to go out of vogue! Here’s a product to give a dash of orange to your lips! Today I’m reviewing Lush lip tint in Chilli Tingle.
Price : Rs 570 (picked it on discount for Rs 285)
What Lush says about Chilli Tingle :
Lush Chilli Tingle :
Hoja Santa – over here, mate. Got anything in that sack to moisturise lips and give them a lovely orange red tint?
Chilli Tingle is the answer. Inspired by a trip that Alecommy, our Italian colleague, took to Mexico. We loved the ingredients he brought back so much, we put them all in here. First there was some lovely dried chillies, which we thought would be great for stimulating the lips and waking up the blood supply in winter. Then there’s hoja santa – an aromatic herb known as ‘sacred leaf’. He also brought back annatto seeds, which have such a strong natural red colour in their seeds that the bush is known as the Lipstick Tree.
We then asked Jemma at our R&D labs to make a lovely blend of colours to compliment the annatto, and she came up with this beautiful orange red blend.
All that was left for us to do was make a lovely moisturising base of jojoba oil and our chocolate-smelling fair trade cocoa butter. Then add some candelillia wax and japan wax to seal the lips and give a barrier against the winter weather and to hold that lovely colour on the lips.
Perfect! Hot lips for chilly times.
Ingrediants : Organic Jojoba Oil, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter, Candelilla Wax, Organic Agave Syrup , Icing Sugar, Organic Ground Chilli , Dried Yerba Santa , Annatto seeds , Titanium Dioxide, Colour 73360, Colour 14700, Colour 19140
*occurs naturally in essential oils
My take on the product
Lush lip tint Chilli Tingle comes in a tiny aluminium tub packaging. I was quite surprized to see how tiny and simple the tub was, Lush doesn’t believe in fancy packaging and you’d find this philosophy consistent in their entire product range. It seemed like a press-fit mechanism kind of packaging but its actually a screw open kind.
The texture of this lip tint is waxy and it is well pigmented. It seems like a heavily tinted balm but its doesn’t have the moisturization of a balm. Like the name suggests, it has a scent of chillies which I personally do not like. Thankfully, it doesn’t have the chilli taste! It goes on evenly on the lips though one needs to have exfoliated lips otherwise the product tends to stick to the dry/flaky bits in a very unflattering way. It stays on for a good 4-5 hours with light meals. Its not drying but not moisturizing either.
I’m not a big fan of the formula or scent but the color is beautiful! Its not a very loud or neon orange and hence easier to carry. Its not too intensely pigmented either which increases its wearability. But its not the kind of color one can just put on without a thought. It needs to be worn with evened out skin (read – use foundation!) and a warm blush/bronzer. Basically, you need some more makeup on your face to pull off this color. When worn with a good foundation and warm cheeks, it gives a lovely warm glow to the face!
One can layer the tint for a more intense look, it gives enough coverage to cover up medium pigmentation on lips.
I really like the color especially for summers but not a big fan of the scent or the formula either. Wouldn’t repurchase (unless I go through this one and it comes out on 50% off again!
)
The GOOD about Lush Cosmetics Lip Tint Chilli Tingle :
- Smooth texture
- Well pigmented
- Does not go patchy on the lips
- Stays for a decent time (3-5 hours)
- Lovely soft orange color
- Gives a slight glossy finish
- Scent of Chillies!
- Needs exfoliated lips
- Not really moisturizing
- The color needs some face makeup to go with it else it looks garish
- Expensive at MRP
How it looks on me : I’m wearing Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions foundation and Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder.
Overall Verdict
Lush Cosmetics Lip Tint Chilli Tingle is an orange waxy tint that comes in a tiny tub. The formula is non-drying, well pigmented and stays for 3-5 hours (Depending on your meal intake in between) . It tends to emphasize the dry flaky bits on the lips so its important to exfoliate. The orange tint is neither too loud nor neon, so its makes it wearable though one needs some foundation and warm blush to make it look natural and not garish. The scent of chillis is a turn off though it goes away after some time.
Not my favorite scent or formula but I love the color! Would recommend it you’re looking for a soft orange or if its available at discount.
