Inspired by the ultimate, award-winning moisturizer, Ultra Facial Cream.

  • Mild formula to thoroughly cleanse skin and remove makeup without over-drying or stripping skin of its natural oils.
  • Dissolves excess oil, dirt, and debris.
  • PH-balanced to maintain skin’s natural balance.
  • Tested for safety and gentleness.
  • Kiehl’s Insider Tip: For optimally hydrated skin, use with the other formulas in the Ultra Facial regimen.

How to use : Apply a small amount to clean fingertips and gently massage into damp facial areas in upward, circular motions, avoiding the immediate eye area. Rinse thoroughly or remove excess with a damp wash cloth.

 Key ingredients :

Apricot Kernel Oil is extracted from apricot kernels and has a very high Vitamin E content (aiding fast absorption) and is a trygliceride composed of 75% oleic acid and 20% linoleic acid, and unsaturated fatty acids esterified with glycerin – similar to avocado oil and sesame oil. Found to be highly compatible with the skin. Apricot Kernel Oil moisturizes and softens skin while helping retain clarity and suppleness.

Avocado Oil, derived from the fruit of a tropical American tree, is a rich, fatty-acid emollient. Avocado Oil is known to be the most moisturizing of any fruit oil. It is also a natural source of Amino Acid proteins, Vitamins A, D, E, and potassium. Helps to restore the natural moisture of the skin.

Squalane is a healing botanical lipid with a high affinity for skin to instantly restore and replenish

My Take on the product

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser is a much raved about cleanser and is one of Kiehl’s best selling products. This simple, unassuming white tube of cleanser contains a wonderful product!

Like most Kiehl’s products, the packaging is very simple, it comes in a tube with a screw on cap. It is easy to use and very convenient to for travel. This is in fact the only cleanser I carried on my Malaysia/Singapore trip and my mum and I used this many times a day for about 10 days.

It is a foaming cleanser with a thick semi-transparent consistency. A very tiny amount is needed to cover the face and neck and this way, the tube would last a long time. It is quite thick in texture and if you take a little extra quantity, it doesn’t spread very easily. The tube I received at the Mumbai meet up contains 30 ml of product which is a very convenient size if you’re going on a 10-15 day trip. The product in store comes in a 150 ml packaging. Its quite a huge size but Kiehl’s offers complimentary samples before purchase so one can try it out before splurging on the huge tube.

The cleanser is gentle, yet quite effective. It removed all traces of makeup(Except waterproof mascara) and dirt from the skin (I did not use a makeup remover prior to using this) during my trip and there was barely any residue on the cotton pad when I used my toner. It does not dry out the skin but since the weather is cold, my skin needs moisturizer after washing my face. It does not leave any greasiness or oiliness behind on the skin. It leaves the skin feeling clean and quite soft as well.

Kiehl’s products are fragrance-free and I feel this one would work well for all skin types including those with sensitive skin.

Coming to the cons, I had forgotten to take a scrub along with me on my trip and while this cleanser cleansed my skin well, I could see a few blackheads and whiteheads developing on my nose and chin. I have quite an oily T-zone and slight tendency for acne. I generally scrub 2-3 times a week and use a strong cleanser generally for keep my pores clean especially on the nose and chin area. I like gentle cleansers and while I really liked this, it didn’t deep clean my pores. Moreover, the weather in Malaysia/Singapore was hot and humid and the abundance of outdoor activity also contributed to my skin needing some strong cleansing action. So for people with skin similar to mine, I’d recommend not skipping the scrub while using this cleanser.

Apart from this, I think this is a fabulous product! I really like it for winters and would recommend it to everyone!

The GOOD about Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser :

  1. Convenient, travel friendly, hygienic packaging
  2. Small amount required in each application
  3. Lathers easily
  4. Does not leave any residue behind
  5. Cleans the face well
  6. Makes the skin soft and healthy
  7. Does not overly dry the face
  8. Natural Ingredients, Fragrance free
  9. Not tested on animals
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser :
  1. A little difficult to  spread if excess amount is taken
  2. Does not deep cleanse the pores

Overall Verdict

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser comes in a convenient and hygienic plastic tube packaging. The thick cream like gel lathers with water and leaves the skin clean and soft after use. It is non-drying on the skin and removes all makeup(except stubborn waterproof) and dirt from the skin. A little goes a long way and the tube will last a long time. The only con is that it doesn’t deep clean the pores so those with oily/acne prone skin might face some clogged pores if they haven’t been using a scrub to exfoliate.

Rating : 4/5

I’ve never tried a Kiehls product before, though I was thinking of picking up one of the kits they offer to try various products. I’d also have to supplement with a scrub but this may be worth a try!
