Maybelline Clear and Smooth Minerals BB Cream 02 Natural : Review, Swatch and FOTD

Hey everyone!

The world of BB Creams is still an alien one for Indian audience and after having heard so much about these creams, I was dying to get my hands on at least one of these. When I spotted the Maybelline BB cream at a counter in Kuala Lumpur on my Malaysia trip, I picked it up without a second thought and I’m so glad I did! Today I’m reviewing one of my current favorite products – Maybelline Clear and Smooth Minerals 8-in-1 BB Cream in the shade 02 Natural.

Price : RM 19. 80 (Malaysian Ringitt) = approx. Rs 320

The Indian version of this product is priced at Rs 199.

Quantity : 18 ml

My take on the product

For those who aren’t aware of this product, BB Cream stands for Blemish Balm (or Beauty Balm) which is a cream with soothing, protecting and brightening ingredients that give a smooth, clear and radiant look to the skin. For more info about BB creams, you can read THIS article.

The Maybelline Clear and Smooth Minerals BB Cream comes in a light blue plastic tube with a screw on cap. The packaging is attractive and easy to use, the squeeze tube is hygienic though the nozzle can get a bit messy over time.

The cream is tinted and the shade 02 Natural is quite close to my skin tone. The texture is like that of a moisturizing cream, its neither too light like a lotion nor too heavy. It gives light/medium coverage and it perfect for everyday wear. Coming to its soothing and protecting properties, I used this cream while suffering from a mild threading rash and I feel it did have a mild soothing effect though not something like a medicated cream would have. It definitely has a brightening effect on the skin and the skin looks more nourished, healthier and as if lit up from within! The brightening is due to the light cast it leaves on the skin the way sunscreens do but since its tinted, it doesn’t look unnatural or whitish.

The staying power is pretty good, I have worn it for about 10-12 hours and it wore well. The SPF 26 and PA+++ factor gives good protection from the sun though in summers, a higher SPF sunscreen is a must. It covers up the mild redness due to acne/scars etc and did not irritate the existing breakouts. It blends easily enough though I feel it’ll perform best over moisturized skin. Rubbing this over dry/flaky skin might not give best results.

It is moisturizing and on my combination skin (winter time), I feel the need to blot my T-zone after 4-5  hours of wear though the rest of the face doesn’t need any blotting/touch up.  Since, my skin gets very oily in summers, it might not suit me as well in warmer weather but for the rest of the year, its great. It would suit normal/dry skin types wonderfully throughout the year though a little extra moisture may be needed in the winters.

Overall, it gives a nice semi-dewy finish to the skin, the kind that everyone loves in the winters! It also gives a decent coverage and a good amount of healthy, natural brightening effect. This was purchased by me from Malaysia and I’m so happy to know that Maybelline is launching a BB cream in India too(priced at Rs 199). I hope the formula would be the same because I’m definitely going to repurchase this product. Its easy to use and the perfect tinted moisturizer for me.

In this FOTD, I’m only wearing Maybelline BB cream on my face with the only makeup being a lip stain,  one can see the brightening effect it has –

The GOOD about Maybelline Clear and Smooth Minerals BB Cream :

  1. Attractive, easy to use squeeze tube packaging
  2. Blends easily
  3. Gives good moisturization
  4. Has SPF as well as PA+++ protection
  5. Has a soothing, brightening effect on the skin
  6. Lasts for a good 9-10  hours on the face
  7. Conceals redness, mild scarring/spots
  8. Does not get patchy/uneven on the skin as it wears off
  9. Well priced
  10. Perfect for everyday wear
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Maybelline Clear and Smooth Minerals BB Cream :
  1. May be a little heavy for oily skinned ladies in the warmer weather
  2. All skin tones may not find the perfect shade match
  3. Does not conceal pores, acne marks since it has light coverage

 Overall Verdict

Maybelline Clear and Smooth Minerals BB Cream is a brightening and nourishing tinted moisturizer that comes in  a handy tube packaging and contains SPF 26 as well as PA+++ protection. The moisturization is good for winters though it may be a little heavy for oily skinned ladies in the summer months. It gives light/medium coverage and a natural finish which is perfect for everyday wear!

Definitely worth trying!

wow…good one!!! is it similar to the ‘Peach me perfect’ skin glow from Oriflame ?

      January 9, 2012 / 9:12 pm

Peach me Perfect is a tinted moisturizer with some shimmer particles, this one does not contain shimmer and has more of soothing, protecting properties.

How odd for a BB cream to have light coverage. Isn’t the entire point that it covers up blemishes?

    • Anonymous
      January 10, 2012 / 10:59 pm

I agree though I’m still quite happy to get my hands on this. Have you tried BB creams?

      • January 11, 2012 / 3:47 am

I’ve tried Missha M Perfect Cover in 31, but it was still a bit too pale for me. I’m NW30-35 at my lightest so it’s hard to find something appropriately colored. It had great coverage but dried my skin out quite a bit. :3 I posted on it.

The drying part is not good. I’ve heard a lot about Skin79 BB creams too, hope I can lay my hands on it soon, we don’t get in India sadly!
