I understand most of you are unfamiliar with this brand. Bharat and Dorris are celebrity (Bollywood) makeup artists who have been working with the industry for over 25 years and have recently launched their own line of cosmetics. Currently, there are very few stores located in Mumbai and Pune. When I visited the store at Infinity 2, Malad (Mumbai), I found the products to be quite reasonably priced and impressive in terms of texture/pigmentation. After using them however, I feel there is a bit of room for improvement! However, I would still say, the products are worth a try! You can read more about them HERE.

What Bharat and Dorris say about the product :

Eye Catching! Bold! Superb shades, all beautifully ranged to compliment all seasons, all fashions. Our velvety texture and highly pigmented shadows will keep you on the cutting edge of the trends and can be applied wet or dry

The shade no.s listed on the site are in a different series altogether, I could not find this particular shade there.

My take on the product

The eye shadow refill pan comes in a regular round refill packaging. The pan comes in a plastic packaging which can be used to store the eye shadow easily if one doesn’t have a palette. A palette just makes it convenient and easy to carry around. These pans are not magnetised.

The texture of this eye shadow is soft and smooth. It is very pigmented and you just need one swipe with the brush to get true color. However, since its on the softer side, too much pressure while picking up the product can lead to a bit of wastage. It blends easily and gives a smooth gradient. So far, impressive. But the staying power breaks the bubble here. On my oily lids, it begins to crease after 2 hours. Dry lids can be powdered with compact before using this but oily lids will definitely need a good primer to prevent creasing. As the name suggests, these can be used wet too but on my oily lids, wet application doesn’t really prolong the creasing time either. After using a primer, they wear for 6-7 hours after which there is significant fading.

The shade no. 34 :

The shade 34  is a mid tone bluish grey with a pearl finish. Its a really pretty shade which gives  a nice sheen to the lids, I feel it’ll work better for cooler skin tones. The shade can be just applied on the lids as a wash or paired with dark blue or black for a smokey eye. The shade would work with many lip colors. One can wear it with pinks, peaches as well as browns. I’ve worn it with Peach in my FOTD. Its not an everyday kind of shade but an casual outing or a party, it makes a lovely shade.

EOTD : I have smudged MAC Smolder on upper lash line then applied this eye shadow all over lid and blended in the crease. Avon glimmersticks liner in Black Ice used to line upper lash line and NYX Jumbo pencil in Yogurt applied under browbone.

Creasing on oily lids after 2 hours (without base) :

The GOOD about Bharat and Dorris watercolor eye shadow :

  1. Available as refill pans – customized palette can be built
  2. Smooth soft texture
  3. Good pigmentation
  4. Can be used wet/dry
  5. Blends easily
  6. Available in a wide range of colors
  7. Priced reasonably at Rs 250 per pan
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Bharat and Dorris watercolor eye shadow :
  1. Creases soon, especially on oily lids (needs a primer)
  2. Not available anywhere except Mumbai/Pune

This is how it looks me one, paired with a matte peach lip :

Overall Verdict

Bharat & Dorris watercolor eye shadows are smooth, soft and pigmented eye shadows that blend with ease. The only drawback is the staying power and one needs a base to prevent it from creasing too soon. The shade no. 34 is beautiful bluish grey with a pearl finish that can be worn in a variety of ways. The price of this product is great and gives a very economical option for building a customized palette. I would recommend investing in an eye primer if one is going to be using these eye shadows (Especially if one has oily lids).

Availability is an issue but hopefully in the future either they would open more stores or one of the online websites would begin to stock these.

Rating : 3.9/5

Have you tried Bharat & Dorris products?

You can see the product range on Bharat & Dorris website HERE. There seem to be a lot of interesting products in the eye range – like cake eye liner, flat smokey eye pencils, Lash conditioner and brow fix!

This shade looks amazing and am so sad about the creasing part. Had been waiting to get my hands on this since a long time but I do not think its worth it if it creases only after two hours 🙁

A primer will delay the creasing but without it on oily lids, it will crease soon 🙁

Thanks Anupama 🙂 I’m still exploring Inglot, will do that post in the first week January sometime, hope you can wait till then! However the shades of lipsticks I do have are great -no. 27 (rich raspberry red – worn in look of the week in previous post), 61 (brownish pink – great shade for everyday neutral looks) and 86 (rich plum). I love these 3 shades and would be trying some more. Haven’t tried the blushes yet, will post about it when I do.

Go for lighter shades and in slightly frosty finish, darker shadows and matte finishes will only make them appear smaller!

Its really a pretty color. I am already imagining how I would use this….inner half of the lids and smokey eyes would look great too. I guess primer is must with such inexpensive e/s. I loved your peach lippie too 🙂 🙂
