Hi everyone!
Today I’m reviewing MAC Select Moisture Cover concealer from the Mickey Contractor collection in the shade NC 45.5.
Price : Rs 1000-1100
Quantity : 5 ml
What MAC says about the Select Moisture Cover Concealer :
A luxuriously blendable moisturizing concealer in a tube with built-in doe-foot applicator. Goes on exactly where you want it: blends in for a natural satin-smooth ultra-moisturized finish. Layers up for added coverage. Line-softening, skin-perfecting: The Pros’ “select” for under-eyes and delicate skin. Wide shade range provides soft, natural camouflage. Use with the 194 Concealer Brush.
My take on the product
This is one my earliest concealers and I have a love-hate relationship with this one! The main reason for this is my changing under eye care routine. When I bought this concealer in March 2011, I wasn’t really using any eye cream. This shade matched me perfectly back then. When I started using eye creams, my under eye area lightened up a bit and this shade started feeling a little dark as compared to the rest of my face. However, on my last trip to the MAC Store, I asked the MUA to match me with another shade but she told me how I could make this one work. She asked me to layer foundation over this and that worked.
MAC Select Moisture cover concealer comes in a transparent tube packaging with a doe foot applicator- similar to a lip gloss. The packaging is sturdy and easy to use. One just needs to dot the concealer under the eyes and over the eye lid with the doe foot applicator and blend with fingers.
The texture of this concealer liquid which is neither too runny nor too thick. It blends easily and gives a clean moisturized finish to the eye area. It does not settle into the fine lines and crows feet and neither does it get cakey. It takes care of the dryness but I feel one should still use an eye cream as part of their daily routine. Texture and blendability-wise, this concealer is just amazing and I’ve not had a single instance where it settled into lines or looked patchy. It stays on for a good 8+ hours. The only con one could possibly face with this concealer is its coverage. It gives sheer/medium coverage which is why its best suited for people with moderate pigmentation under the eyes. For the same reason, its most suitable for use on the eyes , its not much good in covering up spots or blemishes on the face. Since its liquid texture, it might not fare well on people with very sweaty or oily under eye area.
.
Since its a liquid concealer, one needs to set it with powder otherwise it begins to crease. Setting it with powder ensures clean finish and makes it last longer. It feels quite light and comfortable on the eyes. If you’re looking for a moderate coverage moisturizing under eye -concealer that blends well to a natural finish and doesn’t cake or crease over the course of the day, MAC Select Moisture cover is the perfect fit for you!
Who should NOT go for this ?
- people with heavy under eye circles who need a lot of coverage
- people looking for a concealer to conceal spots or blemishes on the face
- people with oily/sweaty under eyes
For those looking for heavier coverage, MAC Studio finish concealer may be a better pick, it is a creamy concealer with heavier coverage that also shows up better in photos though it has a tendency to get crease and get cakey with time.
I feel everyone should invest in a good concealer. It might not be a very attractive and appealing product but it makes a HUGE difference to the overall look! The most important thing about a concealer is that it should match your skin tone, otherwise the whole purpose of using it is defeated! Sometimes slight mismatch in tone can be corrected by layering foundation over it but not always. While buying a concealer, go for the texture most suited your requirement. Stick concealers are better for spot concealing while creamy/liquid texture work better for under eye area.
Note how it absorbs without settling into the lines :
The shade NC 45.5 :
The shade NC 45.5 was launched as part of the Micky Contractor collection earlier this year. Since its a limited edition product, its not available anymore. With concealers, the general rule is that darker shades give better concealing. Since my under eye area has lightened , this shade looks a little too dark than the rest of my face BUT it gives better concealing that a lighter shade, say NC 43. I am unable to wear this concealer alone as it looks darker than the rest of my face BUT when I’m wearing foundation , wearing concealer under foundation gives me almost perfect coverage under the eyes. The concealer gives good coverage and color/tone mismatch is taken care of by layering the foundation over it.
Another great use of this concealer is for contouring the face. This technique was suggested to me by MAC MUA Dipti as a way to use up this concealer. This also happens to be the favorite contouring technique of MAC Senior Artist Vimi Joshi who uses a concealer 2 shades darker than the skin tone for sculpting and contouring. Since the texture and blendability of this concealer is great, it is perfect for countouring!

AFTER
Note how it evens out the shadows and pigmentation around the eyes to give a clean finish :
The GOOD about MAC Select Moisture Cover Concealer :
- Sturdy and convenient easy-to-use packaging
- Workable liquid texture
- Neither too runny nor too thick
- Blends easily to give clean finish
- Moisturizing
- Feels light and comfortable on the eyes
- Does not settle into lines
- Does not get cakey or crease
- Stays on for a good 8+ hours
- Gives moderate coverage to the eye area
- Can be used for contouring the face as well
- Small quantity required for each application
- Gives medium coverage- not enough for people with dark under eye circles
- Does not conceal blemishes/spots well
- Will not suit people with oily under eye area
Overall Verdict
MAC Select Moisture Cover Concealer is a medium coverage liquid concealer that blends easily to give a seamless clean finish. The liquid formula is moisturizing and does not get patchy/cakey or settle into lines. It stays put for a long time once blended and set with powder. It is perfect for concealing the under eyes for people with light/moderate pigmentation and can multi-task for contouring the face too. As an under eye concealer, its pretty good at what it does and I have no complaints from this regarding performance, highly recommended!
Rating : 4.7/5
Not recommended for people looking for heavy coverage or concealing spots/blemishes.

Looks good really! very effectively concealed and has brightened your entire look! I liked it, will try this once for sure!
Thanks Taps
Do try it out!
i’m so getting this. i have a lot of stick and cream concealers. time for a liquid one!
This one would be really good for winters
I hate using stick ones on under eyes in winters!
Nice review!! I’ve also been looking for a liquid concealer. Was debating between this and inglot.
Inglot ones are pretty great I’ve heard, and much lighter on the pocket! I suggest you try out both at the respective stores and see which one suits u better!
looks like a good one….right now im quite content with my studio fix concealer..n yes lightly brushing foundation over the concealer helps match the eye area to the rest of the face and it helps extend the wear of the concealer as well……
Hows the Studio fix concealer Sophia? I’ve heard it gets a bit cakey after few hours.
sorry tis the studio finish concealer with spf 35 n it works great for under eyes n redness….n it doesn’t get cakey at all on me-may be its because i moisturize my face well……
i have select cover up concealer in nc45 and it too works pretty good for me as i have dark under eye circles
Select cover up’s nice too, a little better than this one!
Mac breaks me out for some reason so I use a concealer by Dermablend and absolutely love it!
Its too bad MAC breaks you out. I’d love to try Dermablend but its not available in India yet!
I have this and I love it a lot for under eye area, but it really fails to impress me when it comes to other marks on my face.
True, like I said in the review, its good just for the under eyes. For the face marks, a stick/pencil concealer works best!
I have Chambor stick concealer but it doent hide my marks well. Not very good, it looks cakey.
Thats too bad. I have Colorbar stick one which is okay at concealing spots. It matches my skin very closely but can be drying on the under eye.
very costly product for a concealer
MAC products are generally priced in this range only Manali.
I bought this one in NC 45 a while back and I’m truly impressed with it,though the shade is slightly darker for concealing blemishes on my face for the under eye area, it works great
Slightly darker shades work better at concealing. Mine is darker than my face too but like yours, works well for the under eye.
recently i went to the MAC store to get my shades checked in both foundation and concealer bt the MUA told me i dont need any concealer. :/ nd the foundation makes my face so greasy….:( i chked out the colorbar pot wala concealer . it was nice. i guess i ‘ll pick tht one only.
Lucky you , not needing concealer!
Which foundation did you try? you should try Studio fix fluid or powder, its great for oily skin!
hawww …no i need for sure. i guess the MUA was too busy to notice my dark circles
My face survives the day even with a regular compact bt i tried the studio fix foundation n it doesn’t do anything except for making my face super greasy which is so odd.
I have such a love hate relationship with this concealer too! For me it’s a little more on the hate side because my under eye area is super dry and this really accentuates the dryness!! I just came across your blog and I really love it!!! Is there an option to follow your blog with google friend connect?! xx
Hey! Sorry for the super late reply. I do not GFC, you can subscribe to my email updates.
I have this in NW30 but I honestly don’t know how to use it. I always have the hardest time blending them in. Such a newbie!
This is one of my favourite concealers. I only use it for undereye as my undereye area is a bit dry some times and when you wear dark eyeshadow looks, it’s really important to conceal the undereye area – I learned this the hard way
If you’re looking for a good blemish concealer, I’d recommend Mac’s ProLongwear concealer but you might have to moisturize the blemish and then layer the concealer and set with powder, that usually works for me, at least for a good 6 hours. After that I have to accept that I don’t have perfect skin and try not to think too much about it.
Thanks! I’ll check out Pro long wear, my Select Moisture cover is nearly over. Have you tried Matchmaster? I got a sample the other that lasted me quite some time. I love how it photographs, will be picking up the full size soon.
Hmm… I like the before and after pics, although I must say your dark circles arent that promiment.
I have the moisture duo and love it to bits. But sad its limited edition
Which eye cream do you reco?? U toh know I have major dark eye circles…AM almond eye I have not tried so might get that next time. Have you tried Vichy for eyes?

hiii… i hve dark circles n sme spots.. n m nt dat fair n i sweat a lot suggest me d bst concealer i had bot oriflame studio artist concealer n foundatn but it did not suit mah skin color.. plz suggest mac cncealer and foundation…
Hi, please visit the MAC Store in your city and the Sales Staff there will help you choose the right products for your skin. They are trained and very helpful and will be able to decide what you need after seeing you in person. Since you are prone to sweating, you should use a powder foundation like MAC Studio Fix powder instead of cream based foundations. A liquid foundation like MAC Studio Fix fluid will also be good. You can also try the new MAC Matchmaster foundation, its really good. Always use a powder to set your foundation to prevent it from sliding off your face due to sweating.

is this better than MAC selec cover up concealer?

Unfortunately this one DOES settle on fine lines under my eyes and looks horrendous…So disappointed…maybe I will try a stick or cream one. Great review though!!
hey i have Mac studio finish concealer NC 30 . can you please do a review of this as well and how to apply it. Also please suggest a goos eye cream to be applied before concealer. Thanksss:)
I do like this concealer – your review described it perfectly. I think you’re right though that NC45.5 is too dark for you – I have darker skin than you do (judging from your pictures) and I use moisturecover in NC35. On my skin it doesn’t settle into lines or crease but I have dry skin.
I also prefer my undereye concealer to be a shade lighter than my skintone.
