Today I’m reviewing MAC Cinematics Double Feature eye shadow duo 4 which is part of the newly launched MAC Cinematics Collection.
Price : Rs 1200 for 2.8 g
My take on the product
MAC Cinematics Collection for Fall 2011 features 8 eye shadow duos of interesting color combinations. The one I picked up in no. 4 which has a Deep forest green (Veluxe Pearl) / Mid-tone ochre brown (Matte) eye shadow combination.
The duo comes in standard MAC palette packaging – transparent lid with magnetized open/shut mechanism except the eye shadows are glued to the palette instead of the transferable magnetized pan of the regular line. The packaging is classic MAC and I really like that it has a transparent lid which makes locating these very easy.
Duo no. 4 was the best duo of the lot in terms of color payoff and texture. Both eye shadows have soft smooth texture and are well pigmented. They blend with ease and can be used in a variety of looks. The staying power is quite amazing – they stay on without creasing (without primer) on my oily lids for 7+ hours easily. They have almost no fall out. To sum up, the formula is the best one would expect from MAC !
The shades :
In all honesty, I wanted this duo right the moment I saw the teal-forest green shade! The ochre shade didn’t seem very workable but after trying it out, I can say its one of the most useful eye shadows I have in my collection! MAC describes the shades quite accurately here, the green in a Deep forest green with a gorgeous Veluxe Pearl finish. It can be used alone for an intense green eye or used with a brown/black for a smokey eye. The Matte Ochre shade is a brilliant shade for blending out darker shades in the crease. I have used it with brown (Bourjois eye shadow no. 9) as well as the Deep forest green from this duo and it gave a seamless transition in the crease with both eye shadows. You can see the different ways I have used these eye shadows further down in the post.
This is definitely one of the best from MAC and priced so well too. The quantity is almost regular sized and the price comes out much lesser had these been purchased separately at the regular price. The shade pairing in unusual but works quite well. Highly recommended!
Look 1 : Forest green shade all over lid and on lower lash line, blended out in the crease with the Matte ochre brown shade
Look 2 : MAC Smolder smudged on lid with Brown Bourjois eye shadow, blended and sheered out with Matte ochre brown shade.
Look 3 : MAC Romp on lid, Deep forest green shade from this duo in outer corner, crease and lower lash line
MAC Cinematics Double Feature eye shadow duos come in 8 interesting combinations and no. 4 features a Deep Forest green eye shadow with a Veluxe Pearl finish and a Matte ochre brown shade. The texture, pigmentation, staying power of these eye shadows are excellent. The shades may seem like an unusual pair but can be used together as well as separately with a variety of looks. Both shades are equally workable and at Rs 1200 this duo is a steal! The only con I can think of is that the eye shadows are glued so it’ll be difficult to remove them and transfer to a bigger palette if one wants to do that.
