What Neutrogena says about Oil free Acne Wash :
Oil-Free Acne Wash is the #1 dermatologist recommended acne-fighting cleanser. This oil-free formula gently cleanses deep down into pores for clear skin. It contains Salicylic Acid to get rid of acne you have now and help prevent future breakouts. Special skin soothers help prevent irritation and overdrying. Skin is left clean, residue-free and never oily.
- Non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores)
My take on the product
Neutrogena Oil free acne wash comes in a transparent bottle packaging with a nozzle pump dispenser. The bottle is transparent and one can see the light orange colored gel inside. The packaging looks good but is a little inconvenient to use. The pump dispenses too much product if one presses it right to the bottom. For optimum quantity of product, pressing it lightly is enough. Also, the bottle starts leaking at the nozzle tip the moment it is laid horizontal. Because of this, it cannot be carried around while travelling. I love this product but the packaging really needs to be changed!
The product itself is a light orange colored gel which lathers with water but does not foam a lot. It cleans thoroughly giving a clean glow to the face after rinsing with water. Since it doesn’t lather a lot, it is not drying and leaves the skin soft, smooth and clean. It does not leave behind any residues and is not harsh on the facial skin. It does keep acne and pimples in control though it doesn’t eliminate their occurrence completely. I have experienced more breakouts when I stopped using this product for a week so I can say with some confidence that it does work in keeping the skin acne free to some extent. It has a very light pleasant fragrance which reminds me of Johnson and Johnson’s baby products.
The product only says ‘meant for acne prone skin’ and not oily skin so other skin types prone to acne can use this product too. It is not very drying but I do feel like applying a moisturizer after using this. The product contains 2 % Salicylic acid and hence may not be suitable for very sensitive skin types.A very small quantity is required for one wash and this way the 175 ml bottle will easily last 4-5 months. I have been using it for over 2 months and I use it 2-3 times a day and one can see I’ve only gone about halfway through the bottle.
It is the best face wash for my skin type I have used to far and I will definitely repurchase this one. It cleans thoroughly without drying the face and gives a soft glow to the skin after rinsing. It works to some extent is preventing and reducing acne too.
Highly recommended to everyone with combination/oily skin and/or acne tendency.

Neutrogena Oil free Acne Wash is a gel based face wash (containing 2% salicylic acid) meant for acne prone skin that cleans thoroughly without drying out the facial skin. The product gives a clean glow to the face after washing and controls acne and pimples to some extent. One bottle lasts for 4-5 months easily and comes out quite cost effective that way. The product formula is excellent and it the best face wash for my skin type (oily acne prone) that I’ve used so far but the packaging is inconvenient. It drips and leaks if not stored vertically and is not travel friendly. I really wish they would change the packaging, it is the only dark mark on an otherwise excellent product!
