My take on the product

Having heard a lot about Vichy Normaderm range of products for oily acne prone skin, I picked up this night cream few weeks back from Violetbag.com. This is my first Vichy product and I can say this is one of the best skin care products for oily acne prone skin I have found so far!

The product comes in green colored tube packaging with a thick screw on cap. I quite like the packaging – it doesn’t too clinical or dull and neither does it look too flashy. It looks like a professional product that delivers what it promises.

The texture of this product is somewhere between a light cream and a lotion. It absorbs into the skin with light massage to give a nongreasy yet hydrated looking finish to the skin. I generally apply the product in small dots and spread it with my fingers till it absorbs. The peculiar thing about the texture is that while spreading the product and massaging it into the skin, one can feel very fine micro particles in the cream, maybe something the size of clay particles. I do not know what that is but since its not abrasive, I do not have any issues with it. Upon absorbing, it gives a clean hydrated look to the skin.

I have been using this product for a little over 4 weeks now and I have observed the following changes in my skin :

  • the large pores on the nose and inner cheeks appear smaller
  • the texture of the skin looks more even
  • the acne marks  have lightened to considerable extent
  • skin looks less oily and more hydrated
  • breakouts have reduced (not eliminated completely)
  • skin appears more uniform, cleaner and glowing
What the product does not do :
  • does not prevent acne completely , I still have breakouts but they are less frequent
  • does not heal acne

It is not a quick fix remedy for sudden breakouts nor does it heal pimples completely but it does make them less frequent. It  improves the texture, suppleness and look of the skin while making it more hydrated, more even, glowing and less oily. Most products meant for oily acne prone skin type dry out the skin completely and this is a welcome change from that! Even the most drying products used to make my skin oily overnight. I used to wake up the morning with a horribly oily face but this products has changed that! I now wake up to just some oiliness around my T-zone and the rest of the face looks clear and clean. Also,  the  improvement in skin tone can be seen right from the first application.

There is a chance that it may not have the same effect in everyone’s skin but I would still recommend the product to all combination/ oily acne prone skin type women. I would personally repurchase this!

The product is expensive but 50 ml would last for 2-2.5 months easily.

Overall Verdict

Vichy Normaderm products are known to be excellent for oily acne prone skin types and Normaderm Night Chrono-active anti-imperfection care does not disappoint! Its a light weight creamy lotion that helps in decreasing large pores and evens out the skin tone by decreasing post acne marks and pigmentation. It improves the texture, look and feel of the skin without dehydrating it. With regular use, it has made my skin more uniform, glowing and hydrated and the breakouts have become lesser and smaller.

I highly recommend this product to all combination/oily acne prone skin types. The product is worth the price and I would definitely try out more products from the Normaderm range.

Rating : 4.5/5 (-0.5 since it doesn’t heal/prevent acne completely)

Have you tried Vichy Normaderm products?

    1. Hi Ishita, I’ve tried a sample of their toner and quite liked it. Will try the entire range sometime. Have you tried the post acne marks treatment product they have?

    1. Hi Richa, the product description says for combination/oily skin so it should work. Its not a drying product so it won’t parch your skin.

  1. i have been struggling with acne for a while and had been trying quite a few products , i recently purchased a face sponge /loofah (not sure what to call it, poor woman’s clarisonic?! ) ,which is to be used with the cleanser (i use a avene cleanser for sensitive skin) , i think it is working quite well for me , also i am now religiously using my liz earle hot cloth cleanse and polish , which is also helping in keeping my skin blemish free , for the exisiting scars i am using bio-oil and the lancome blanc expert moisturizer , all the products are working well for me …i personally think the face cleanser and the mild exfoliation of liz earle’s muslin cloth is keeping the acne at bay for me 🙂 you must try it .

    1. Hi Rajni, I have tried the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanse and polish but the cream is quite rich and it broke me out everytime I tried it though it did make my skin really soft. Any idea where I can purchase Bio oil from? I’m want to try out Lancome skin care too though I’ll get samples first. I do have a sample of Visionnaire but haven’t tried it out since I was testing other products. Neutrogena oil free acne wash along with the Neutrogena gentle scrub are working great at keeping my face clean and acne free right now. I wish the Liz Earle product hadn’t broken me out 🙁

      1. Oh thats bad 🙁 i picked Bio-oil when i went for a trip abroad , dont think it is available here 🙁 i am running out of it sadly , i have seen something like the bio-oil from Palmers on one of the online stores, i think on urban touch , the problem is my skin is so tempermental i am scared to try anyting new

  2. Glad to see you too have joined the Normaderm bandwagon 🙂 Have been using them for a couple of years and can’t live without it. I do the whole face wash, toner, day cream and night cream routine. It works better with all of them together; had started out with the day cream.

    1. 🙂 I really liked this product and the fact that it did not dry my skin out. Are the other products from this range drying ? If they are I wouldn’t want to use them in winter then since my skin tends to get some dry patches.

  3. sounds sooooperr!! it kinda looks like acnes powder lotion… like powdery thing in lotion base.. and it mattifies really well.. as of now im liking it.. but dunno abt long term benefits abhi tak

    1. Its quite good Neha, try it out if you have problems of open pores especially, it does make them look smaller. I’ll check out the acnes powder lotion you’re talking about. I think I’ve seen it on some online shopping website recently, can’t remember which one though
      !

  4. Ankita don ever try Clinique toners they r soooo harsh on ur skin.. too much of alchohol . That is the only product from their range which gave me irritated skin.
No their post blemish formula is not that gr8 tho I havnt tried it personally but its not worth the money.

but ankita just generally advising never use too many products if u r prone to acne. that is the culprit we tend to use so many products and finally irritate our skin

    1. Hi Ishita, I tried a sample of the toner and liked it. My skin is actually not so sensitive and I do need a strong toner, milder ones don’t work for me. But I’ll keep in mind about the post blemish formula.

  5. glad the nuit cream is workin well….im super tempted to giv this one a second chance….rite now im only using my face pack and la roche posay thermal spring water before bed n i can feel my skin thankin me 4 not over-abusing it with night creams…..goin 2 get vichy’s thermal water from violetbag:-)

  6. I have an incredibly oily skin that does well even without a moisturiser in winter!! So, can’t say how drying it will be for you, but except the facewash, it is not at all drying for me.
But stay away from the toner (which is alcohol based) if you are under any medical grade exfoliation…..it will sting like hell and make you go red like a beet.
Day cream goes on smooth without the oily shine.
    Happy ‘Normaderming’!! 🙂

  7. Hi Ankita,

Quite an old post but very useful. Its summers approaching here and im out of night creams. I have acne prone lightly oily skin. Lately have gotten super tanned and uneven skin tone :(. plus dark circles. using Biotique almond eye cream for that in the nights. But Please suggest a repairing night cream for overall face and these problems. I’m planning on this Vichy one as your review sounds pretty detailed and clear.
Do suggest if anything better has been identified by you off lately.
Woulld be glad to receive your response for a healthier brighter and even toned skin. Thanks.
    Love corallista.

    1. Hi Shweta, this Vichy cream is good. You could also include a serum in your routine to help with the tanning etc – LÓreal Youth Code one is great. Also, the Clarins Lotus Treatment Oil is really good for oily, breakout prone skin! Little expensive but totally worth it!

  8. Thanks a tonne Ankita. Will try one of the the serums suggested. Clarins availability is an issue sometimes.
Also, major request. can u suggest a good lightening brightening day cream for me. Considering the tan, summers and oily skin. Using lotus gel creme right now but is giving a white cast in the summer heat. Not happy.it’s Micro emulsion is unavailable. 🙁 awaiting your inputs.

    1. Hey just read your review of youth code serum. Want to give it a try as replacement for the day gel creme. High hopes. fingers crossed. Thanks :*
I’m also using the narangi nagakesar ubtan by FE. Let’s see if that helps clarifying.
