My take on product
Lancome is well known for its mascaras and when I went to the Lancome Boutique at Palladium to pick up my first products, I could resist buying myself the Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume mascara. Luckily for me, there was amazing offer going on, a limited edition set was available for Rs 1390 containing the full size mascara and a mini lipstick and Bi facil eye makeup remover. The regular price of the mascara is somewhere between Rs 1500-1550!
The mascara comes housed in a silver colored cardboard box like all Lancome products. All the information including the full ingredient list is provided on the packaging. The product itself comes in a black thick plastic packaging. I love the sleek black packaging with the gold lettering on the handle. The shape of the handle of the wand is curved and is easier to hold and apply than regular cylindrical shape. While the packaging is quite classy and convenient, the brush is another story. Its an S-shaped brush densely packed with bristles and a little difficult to work with. I’ve worked with straight brushed and curved brush (Avon supercurlacious mascara) but this one is the first S-shape brush I’ve tried and it took me some time to get used to it.
The brush picks up a lot of product in its dense bristles and how much volumizing and dramatic effect you get depends on the orientation you use the brush. This isn’t something mentioned in the product description but something I discovered in my experience with the product. With trial and error I’ve realized that the most dramatic effect is obtained when I use the convex part of the brush at the outer most lashes and concave one at the inner lashes. The brush is quite large in size and with some good wiggling action, it coats the entire lashes from root to tip giving ultimate volume.
While it may be a little tricky to use, the effect it gives makes it worthwhile! It gives intensely dramatic lashes, thick, dense and elongated for an almost fake lash effect. It gives a lot of curve as well which stays put the entire day. This is the most dramatic mascara I have used this date and I reach out for this one especially when I’m doing dramatic eye makeup. The other mascaras I use have started looking so ‘weak’ as compared to the effect this one gives!
The formula is not too runny and dries quickly enough. It doesn’t feel uncomfortable on the lashes and is waterproof. It comes off with most oil based removers without irritating the eyes. Since the mascara picks up a tad extra product, it can cause some amount of clumping. Karen of Makeupandbeautyblog.com suggests using it after wiping off the excess on a clean tissue but I haven’t tried that yet.
I’d recommend it to those looking for an intensely dramatic mascara. If you use it right, it won’t disappoint. L’oreal Volume Million lashes also gives good volume but not quite as much as this one.
This is how it looks on me. I have applied the mascara in 1 coat with lots of wiggling action to coat the lashes from root to tip.
The GOOD about Lancome Paris Hypnose Drama Instant Full body volume Mascara 01 Excessive Black :
- Sleek, sturdy classy black packaging
- Curved handle gives better grip
- Brush gives full lash coating
- Gives intensely dramatic lashes!
- Blackest black shade
- Holds curl all day long
- Comes off with oil based remover without hurting the eyes
- Safe for contact lens users
- Formula is gentle on the eyes
- The brush is S-shaped and is not the most convenient to use and causes slight clumping
- Not available in all cities
Lancome is known for its mascaras and the Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume mascara lives up to its name. It gives intensely dramatic lashes providing length, curl as well as volume. The effect is fabulous and stays out all day but the S-shaped brush is not the most convenient to use. It picks up a little excess product which can translate to a little bit of clumping but nothing unsightly. The formula is waterproof and only available in one in shade in India. The packaging is sleek black with gold lettering which looks quite elegant. If only the brush was a little easier and more intuitive to use, this would be a perfect 5!
Highly recommended to those looking for an intensely dramatic mascara!
