My take on the product

The Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals Cream Compact Foundation comes in a sleek round  black packaging. The  black outer covering has a matte finish that gives it a very distinctive look. A small part of the cover is transparent giving a view of the compact inside. The rest of the portion of the lid has a mirror inside. The packaging has 2 compartments – one housing the cream compact and the other housing a brush for application. The packaging is really convenient to use! The brush inside is quite large and flat and made of soft bristles. The flat structure of the brush makes it really easy to sweep the foundation on the face. In one stroke it gives a bit of a streaky finish but in a few criss cross strokes – it blends the foundation perfectly! I absolutely love the packaging of this product especially the brush applicator.

The lower brush compartment is designed well so that is easy to pick up the brush from this handle end :

The texture of this compact is creamy. It is essentially a cream foundation packaged in a compact form. Despite, being creamy, its quite light in texture and does not make the skin greasy. It spreads and blends easily to give medium coverage. The product claims to tranform to a matte finish on application but I feel it gives a dewy finish after application.

How it performs on my skin (oily acne prone) :

Even though the weather is still hot in Mumbai, there seems to a bit of dryness in the air which makes my skin a little flaky in some areas like around the nose and forehead. This foundation took care of the dry areas perfectly without making the rest of the face greasy. I felt I needed a little mattifying after applying this so I set it with Chambor Silver Shadow compact. I’ve been wearing this for around 8-9 hours everyday and I only need to touch up 2-3 times during that time and that too only on the T-zone. However, if one stays out too long in the sun wearing this, the  skin may begin to feel a little greasy.

It keeps the face looking fresh and glowing even after 9+ hours of wear. It evens out the skin tone, covers up blemishes and under eye dark circles with a very small amount of product. It gives a luminous glow to the skin along with medium coverage which looks very natural. My Clinique foundation gives me full coverage and a wonderful glow but its not something I can wear everyday unlike this one.

The products says suitable for all skin types and I think it really would work for all skin types. Dry/Normal skin types can wear it alone over a rich moisturizer while Oily skinned women can set it with powder if they want. I think its a great product for the winters!

Moreover, it did not irritate my existing breakouts. In fact, my skin feels softer and more luminous after just 4 days of wearing this foundation! It is on of the best foundations I’ve used!

Highly recommended to everyone!

The shade 208 Golden Vanilla :

The shade is almost neutral and looks warmer (yellowish) when swatched on the arm. I also tried a pinkish shade on one half of the face along with Golden Vanilla on the other half and the pink one looked a little ashy and dull on while this  made my skin glow. Its quite a close match to my skin tone.I’m NC 40 in MAC for reference.

Overall Verdict

The Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals Cream Compact Foundation is a cream foundation housed in a compact form. The product has exceptionally thoughtful and convenient packaging with an excellent brush for application. The texture is creamy yet lightweight, spreads easily and gives a luminous glow to the skin while providing medium coverage. It doesn’t get cakey on applying more product. It gives a very natural finish that stays on for 9+ hours on my oily skin. It is a great product for winters and I highly recommend it to everyone!

The price is on the higher side but the formula, packaging and the brush are worth the price!

Rating: 4.9/5

  10. November 7, 2011 / 5:46 pm

This looks interesting. I was watching out for mineral cosmetics for a while and looks like this would be a nice product. The only problem, TBS has so much of strong light that last time I could hardly differentiate one shade from another and ultimately left in dismay 🙁

I know lighting is always quite a pain! Do try 2 different shades on each half of your face and roam around a bit, check ur face in different lighting before your purchase it.

hey ankita…hav you tried the powder variant of this foundation?..if so,hw is dat..actually I have oily, acne prone skin so nt sure abt a cream foundation..otherwise ur review makes it very tempting!!

      November 8, 2011 / 11:34 am

Hi Asvita, I haven’t tried the powder variant of this. I have oily skin too but this is working for me since the weather is getting a little dry now. You can try the products on your face at the store to get a better idea of what’ll suit. I’ll suggest the cream one for winters since even oily skin gets a little on the combination side because of the weather.

  13. November 8, 2011 / 12:15 am

Though its creamy, its light? sounds like a very gud product….so tempting.

  14. November 8, 2011 / 4:39 am

Oh I saw this on their site but I wasn’t sure, since it seemed new. I dislike the medium coverage but otherwise it sounds like a great product.

    • Corallista

      November 8, 2011 / 11:36 am

The coverage is medium so it won’t cover the blemishes like a mask but it does even out the skin tone so no redness can be seen. Its a wonderful product! I get compliments on my skin when I wear this 🙂

It would work well Nids, just avoid wearing it in very humid and hot conditions! 🙂 I’ve also tried it for the first time, Colorbar and Lakme both have creamy compacts but never tried them!

Thanks for the review. Its a great product. I’ve been using it with the powder and their blush for a week. Im enjoying the extra attention. 😉
But how long do you think will it last if i use it everyday? Its kind of expensive for a student like me.

  19. October 22, 2013 / 11:00 am

    Hi Ankita
I know this is long after the review but I was thinking of picking it up…my skin is oily n acne prone . But based on your review I guess it should work for me in North Indian winter. And i assume coverage will be more than the BB/CC creams? Need more than what they offer sp with all my recent acne marks 🙁

    • Corallista
      Author
      October 22, 2013 / 1:38 pm

Hey Tamanna, it should definitely work in the Winters. The coverage is more than BB/CC creams and the formula is quite nice. But you might still want to consider using a spot concealer for marks -I’m not sure of the extent of your blemishes.

I wore this in this review more recently and I was ill that day but it really perked up my complexion!

hy ankita…i really like ur n jyoti’s post a lot.i want a good compact for everyday use. i hav oily skin n i wear compact over my sunscreen..pls suggest a good compact widin 1000 for every day use. i stay in kolkata n d weather here is very humid. i hav wasted a lot of money on compacts. i dont need any bb cream or concealer, but a good compacts which says on my face for the whole day.

Hi Shweta, compacts needs touching up. There is hardly anything that would stay on the whole day on oily skin. Within your budget, you have some good options – you could check out the Lakme Absolute white intense cover – it gives a bit of coverage also. The new Lakme Absolute face stylist compact is nice too – very natural texture though lesser coverage. I would suggest you do a touch up midway through the day to get rid of any shine etc.
