Hi everyone!

Today I’m reviewing the most popular and raved about gel liner – MAC Fluidline in the shade ‘Blacktrack‘

Price : Rs 1000

Quantity : 3 g

What MAC says about the product :

Ultra-smooth, Fluidline’s gel formula provides the precision of a liquid liner with a silkier, softer finish. Goes on “foolproof” with a brush in an easy dip-and-stroke action. Long-wearing. Smudge-proof. Lines up in a rich array of colours and finishes. Brush sold separately

MAC describes the shade as ‘Solid Flat black’.

My take on the product

The product comes in a thick glass pot with a black plastic cap. The glass pot has really thick sides to its not very easy to see the color from outside. The packaging is quite sturdy and not prone to breaking.

In my review of MAC Fluidline Dipdown, I mentioned how Dipdown was much smoother and creamier in texture as compared to MAC Siahi – my first MAC fluidline. Well Blacktrack is much better!! The texture feels like whipped cream and applies like a dream on the eyes. It is by far the smoothest and silkiest gel liner I’ve come across.

Just like MAC Fluidline Dipdown, it sets to a waterproof and smudge proof finish after application yet not so fast that it cannot be smudged for smokey looks. The shade is a solid flat black as described by MAC. It is waterline safe and can be used as kohl, it can be used simply as liner or smudged and used as base for a smokey eye. I have used it for the purple smokey eye makeup tutorial HERE.

It doesn’t have the jet black look as kohl but I feel its not a weak black either. It gives sufficiently intense color. It is well pigmented, does not flake, smudge or smear and stays on until taken off using an oil based remover. It does not sting or irritate the eyes in any way.

The formula doesn’t dry or get separated over time and stays soft and smooth. Gel liners and Paint down should always be stored upside down to prevent premature drying of the product.

The formula scores in every respect and is the best gel liner I’ve used! The only con of this product is that it doesn’t come with a brush.

I have used Blacktrack as base on lids and lined upper lash line and waterline with it in the EOTD below. See step by step tutorial HERE.

 Overall Verdict

MAC Fluidline ‘Blacktrack’ is one the most popular gel liners and for good reason! It has the silkiest cream-like texture, can be blended before it sets for smokey looks and is water line safe. The formula doesn’t smudge, flake or smear and stays on till removed with an oil based remover. Unlike drugstore gel liners, the formula doesn’t dry up in the pot or separate over time. It is not a jet black shade but it gives sufficiently intense black finish. I just wish it was a little more intense black and came with a brush!

Highly recommended to everyone!

Rating : 4.5/5 (-0.5 since its not jet black and doesn’t come with a brush)

Have you tried MAC Fluidlines?

Maybelline drama gel liner is not so smooth in texture and not safe for waterline also. Also it tends to dry up pretty soon! MAC Fluidline Blacktrack is much better!

I was thinking of getting the maybelline one for trial first, have u used it ankita

Yes Vid, the Maybelline one is good but not as smooth in texture as MAC. Also its not safe for the waterline and tends to dry up in a few months.

not able to apply on waterline is ok with me :) I dont apply on waterline as my eyes are small

In that case you’ll like the Maybelline one. The only problem is the drying part.

Hi Jyo, this one is not that intense black. Maybelline one is more intense though the MAC formula is better!

Really? Pick up the Maybelline drama gel liner in that case!! You love rich lip colors, thick liner and mascara will complete the look!

Hum. I’m honestly surprised by how…weak the intensity is. I expected a much TRUER black than this.

Reply
Corallista said on 31-10-2011

Ya its not quite intense! I feel the Maybelline gel liner is darker but I prefer the texture and formula of Blacktrack much more even though its less intense.

i use the bobbi brown gel liner in black. it is v v similar to the mac one.. the 2 are the most compared on the internet. it is amazing! i have the most oily waterline. either pencils dont apply without hurting my eye or they smudge within an hour.. these gels stay on without smudging and fading. ive been meaning to buy a mac one in a color. now i think i will! thanks
