Today I’m reviewing MAC Fluidline in the shade ‘Dipdown‘ which is basically a brown gel liner from MAC’s permanent collection.
Price : Rs 1000
Quantity : 3 g
What MAC says about the product :
Ultra-smooth, Fluidline’s gel formula provides the precision of a liquid liner with a silkier, softer finish. Goes on “foolproof” with a brush in an easy dip-and-stroke action. Long-wearing. Smudge-proof. Lines up in a rich array of colours and finishes. Brush sold separately.
MAC describes the shade as ‘Deep dark flat brown’.
My take on the product
My experience with MAC gel liners has been limited to MAC Siahi which is a gorgeous warm blue shade that made created quite a stir when it was launched in the Mickey Contractor collection earlier this year. While Siahi was great formula-wise, I find Dipdown to be even better! The product comes in a thick glass pot with a black plastic cap. The glass pot has really thick sides to its not very easy to see the color from outside. The packaging is quite sturdy and not prone to breaking.
The texture of this gel liner is really smooth and silky! It feels like thick whipped cream (or chocolate in this case 😛 ) and feels luxurious to apply. Having used MAC Siahi previously, I was expecting similar rather thick texture but Dipdown is much smoother to apply. It is quite pigmented and a very small amount is required for true color. Once applied, the formula sets into a smudge proof and water proof finish but allows enough time to work with it before setting, in case one wants to smudge it for a smokey look or as base. It stays on till removed using an oil based cleanser and doesn’t flake, smudge or smear the entire day. It feels very comfortable and light on the eyes and did not irritate my eyes in any way. It is waterline-safe as well as suitable for contact lens users as well.
The formula doesn’t dry or get separated over time and stays soft and smooth. Gel liners and Paint down should always be stored upside down to prevent premature drying of the product.
The formula scores in every respect and is the best gel liner I’ve used! The only con of this product is that it doesn’t come with a brush.
The shade Dipdown :
Its a deep brown with a matte finish. MAC describes it as a Deep dark flat brown but I find a bit of khaki undertone in it. Its not the darkest brown I’ve come across and it looks quite natural on the eyes. When used on upper lash line, waterline and lower line, it gives a lovely defined look to the eyes without the stark look of black liner and kohl. The shade has a bit of khaki and taupe undertone which makes it quite suitable to used as a brow filler as well which is really great cos its smudge proof and waterproof so will stay in place till taken off.
It is a very basic and useful brown shade that may not look irresistible in the pot and swatch but can prove to be really versatile.

The NOT-SO-GOOD about MAC Fluidline Dipdown :

I’ve used the product on upper lash line and waterline in the EOTD below :
MAC Fluidline Dipdown is a basic deep brown gel liner with a matte finish that gives a natural look to the eyes and can be used as base for soft smokey looks and filling brows as well. The texture of this gel liner is amazingly silky and smooth and a little quantity is required for true color. The best part about it that makes it worth the price is that it is waterline safe and it doesn’t dry out in the pot after a few months like other gel liners do.
