Hi everyone!
Today I’m reviewing MAC lipstick ‘Spice it Up’ which is a lustre finish lipstick from the permanent collection.
Price : Rs 990
Quantity : 3 g
What MAC says about the product :
Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M·A·C famous.
MAC describes the shade as a ‘Mulled Brown berry‘.
My take on the product
The product comes in the classic black MAC packaging. While I like the packaging, I do wish there was some way to locate shades more easily – like the colored ends in case of Colorbar Velvet matte and NYX Round lipsticks.
The texture is really smooth and soft and it gives sheer color in single swipe. Lustre finish from MAC typically has buildable coverage and opacity. Single swipe gives sheer/medium color which can be made more intense in 2-3 swipes but it never looks as intense as a matte lipstick would. It has a glossy finish and it very moisturizing. Because of their glossy-ness and buildable coverage, most women find Lustre finish lipstick very wearable and comfortable on the lips. Despite their sheerness, they give opaque color in 2-3 swipes so women with pigmented lips can easily wear these.
The lipstick does not feather or bleed or settle into fine lines. It sits very comfortably on the lips for 3-4 hours including meals in between. A tint stays on the lips for another 1-1.5 hours. The lipstick has the signature vanilla scent which vanishes after application.
The shade Spice it Up!
MAC describes the shade as a ‘mulled brown berry’. I feel that describes the color quite well. It looks quite glamorous and glossy on the lips and I feel this shade will look gorgeous on medium/dusky skinned women. Despite being a deep shade, since its a lustre finish, its quite wearable in the day time as well. I wouldn’t call it a must-have shade but I feel everyone should have a few shades like these for evening parties and colder months. I’d recommend this shade to MAC lipstick fans, I feel it would make a lovely bridal/fall color!
Swatches in different lighting
The GOOD about MAC Lustre lipstick Spice it Up! :
- Classic black MAC packaging- sleek and travel friendly
- Smooth creamy texture
- Glides easily on the lips
- Quite moisturizing
- Stays on for around 3.5-4 hours leaving behind a stain
- Coverage is buildable
- Has a mild vanilla fragrance
- Gives healthy, glossy finish to the lips
- Lasting power is average (upto 4 hours)
- Not convenient to locate shades since they only have a name label and no color indication
- Expensive!
Here’s how it looks on me. For some reason, its appearing a little uneven in the image but it looks quite uniform in real.
Overall Verdict
Lustre finish lipsticks from MAC are sheer/medium coverage lipsticks that are quite moisturizing and give a gorgeous glossy to the lips. The staying power is 3-4 hours and they do leave a tint afterwards. Spice it Up! is brown berry shade that’ll make a lovely fall winter/bridal shade.
I would recommend it to MAC lovers though by itself, I feel its expensive. I would rather splurge on a really long lasting lipstick!
Rating : 3.8/5
Have you tried MAC Lustre lipsticks?

ankita any drugstore dupes for this shade…
I don’t know any with the same finish but Revlon super lustrous Raisin Rage is similar but more pigmented and intense.
wow i was just going to go shopping for fall/winter lipsticks , will try out this one , i had seen this gorgeous shade from YSL’s Pur Couture range bright reddish orange color(i think the no was 13) it instantly lit up my face when the SA tried it on me but somehow did not feel like shelling out 1700 bucks for a lipstick i did not see myself wearing regularly but i can’t get that color out of my head
..i am looking for dupes if i cant find one i think i will end up picking it up
I checked it online and its no. 13 Le Orange. More orange than red but it looks gorgeous! Orange is here to stay and its a lovely pick though you’re right about it not being so wearable. Well if you really want to wear it many ways, you could use it as a stain for subtle looks, if its creamy you can use it on your cheeks as a cream blush. Many ways to multi task these expensive creamy lipsticks!
This range has some lovely shades and this one stands out! Found images in the following link :

will keep u posted , by the way i picked this gorgeous cremesheen lipgloss from Mac called Richly Revered , its really pretty, great shade for the dull delhi winters
so nice shade…………….
Thank you Ani
looks good on you..but i cant pull off such dark shades
Thanks Vanity. I’m sure there must be some shade that’ll work for u..which ones in this color family have u tried?
personally not fond of these red browns, but it’s suiting u def!
Thanks Sukanya
I’ve never tried their Lusters! I do like this shade but the lasting time turns me off. I’ve also begun to develop a similar problem with my MAC lippies. It’s impossibel to quickly find the shade I want!
The lighter shade in Lusters last even lesser! I do wish they change the packaging but i don’t see it happening!
This looks really gorgeous on you Ankita…a typical winter color no!! Loving it…
I think I have seen some shades similar to this in Revlon….
Thanks Kimi
Yes Revlon has similar shades in the Super lustrous range.
Most of the MAC shades I see reviewed on blogs are those nude/peachy/pink shades which don’t really work for me. Am glad to finally see a colour that does! Mom’s collection?
Thanks
Ya Mum’s collection.
Is this similar to colourburst sienna? or is it more berry/cool?
Sienna is much more intense and warmer. This is a little cooler.
