Today I’m reviewing Dermalogica Sheer moisture SPF 15 which is a light weight oil-free moisturizer by Dermalogica.
Price : Rs 2170 for 44 ml
My take on the product
I was sent samples of this product which look as shown in the images below. The actually packaging is in a tube form with a nozzle to squeeze out the product.
The texture of the product is a little uneven. When I opened the sachet, a very thin liquid came out of it at first. I emptied the entire contents in a small transparent jar and I noticed that the entire contents were not that thin and runny in texture. Moreover, on storing it in the jar, I noticed that the runny lotion sort of solidified to a light cream like texture on storage. However on application, the product spreads easily.
The most surprizing part of the moisturizer was the presence of unevenly distributed glitter particles. The overall effect after application is a nice glow to the skin if someone is standing close enough, they can notice the glitter on the face. The glitter is not evenly distributed like highlighters, but randomly distributed and not densely packed. It is still strange to notice random glitter particles on a person’s forehead or nose or chin.
Right on application, it make my oily skin look a little greasy. To take care of that, I followed it up with my regular sunscreen (Lotus 3-in-1 matte SPF 40) and compact. Few hours later, I had expected my skin to becomes really oily but strangely, it was barely so and moreover, retained a fresh glowing look. The initial impression of this product was not so good and it didn’t seem light and oil-free. But over use I’ve seen that the formula is just different from any oil free moisturizer I’ve tried so far and it keeps the skin looking fresh and glowing almost all day long while also some giving oil control. It also takes care of the slight dryness around the nose.
I wouldn’t call it a mattifier exactly but it doesn’t make my skin as oily as most oil free moisturizers do after 3-4 hours.
The product has a really strong fragrance- something like camphor but not exactly so and it might not be to everyone’s liking. Moreover it comes with a hefty price tag which won’t suit everyone’s budget. The good part is that it comes with SPF 15 but as mentioned in my Sun care article, it doesn’t give any protection for UVA rays so one must NOT skip sunscreen (which contains PA+++)
The GOOD about Dermalogica Sheer moisture SPF 15 :
- Consistency is light- easy to spread
- Moisturizes well
- Contains SPF 15
- Gives a glow to the skin that lasts a few hours
- Does not make skin greasy over a few hours – in face, controls oil to some extent
- Has a strong pleasant fragrance (but that could be a CON for some people)
- Small quantity is required for one application
- Did not break me out or irritate my skin in any way
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Dermalogica Sheer moisture SPF 15 :
- The texture is a little uneven
- Gives a greasy feeling right after application- needs follow up with compact/matte sunscreen
- Contains glitter particles which can be seen on the face at close quarters
- Expensive for the quantity given
The product makes a poor first impression but over use I found it to be performing the best among all moisturizers I’ve used so far by giving enough hydration without making skin greasy over the course of the day. It imparts a glow to the skin that lasts till evening but also contains sparsely distributed glitter particles which I personally don’t like. The product has a strong camphor-like fragrance which may be liked by some people. It did not break out my oily acne prone skin in any way nor did it aggravate existing breakouts. The product is quite expensive though it performs well and I feel would suit normal/combination skin types as well in the hotter months.
Rating : 3.85/5
Skin care products perform differently on different prople and I recommend everyone to try out the sample first before purchasing the full quantity.
Will I purchase this product : If I weren’t on a budget I would, but I prefer to splurge on more targeted treatments like acne clearing or radiance boosting concentrates.
