One of the readers Kanika, sent me this picture requesting suggestions for makeup for an upcoming wedding function. Its a gorgeous black net saree with bright red and gold work on it. The color is a classic combination and especially looks good for a winter evening occasion.
Read on for my makeup suggestions!
Here are my suggestions for the makeup :
I’d suggest a smokey eye paired with a medium toned lip and lots of gold highlighter with this outfit. Since its traditional attire and we are almost into the winter season, a smokey eye would look perfect with this saree. Based on the other pics that Kanika sent me, I can see that she has lovely eyes and also likes to use kohl. The smokey eye can be either golden based (like the one I have shown in my Tutorial HERE) or a copper/chocolate brown based (as shown in my Tutorial HERE).
LIP COLOR :
The lip color should not be kept too nude even though it is a smokey eye look because its a wedding function where there would be plenty of photographs taken in night time and a light lip color would completely wash out the face. A peachy brown/terracotta shade with a maroon/brown undertone would look good with this.
My suggestion would be something like Revlon Colorburst lipstick Sienna (worn lightly otherwise it can be overpowering) or Avon smooth minerals lipstick ‘Rosy Brown’ mixed with Chambor truly lasting lipstick ‘Truly Terracotta’. I wouldn’t suggest a pure brown lip color because that’ll add age to the face and make the lips appear thin and dull. A little bit of peachy brown gloss will look great- may be just added to the centre of the lips. My pick would be Avon glazewear Intense ‘Apricot’.
A coppery/peachy brown blush preferably with a little shimmer would look great. My suggestions would be Chambor baked blush ‘Glitzy Copper’ , Revlon colorstay mineral finishing powder ‘Sunkiss Radieux’. (I have used both in my FOTD shown below).
One very very important makeup product that one must never forget for such occasions is HIGHLIGHTER! Since the saree has gold work, a gold/copper highlighter on the cheek bones (and brow bone) would add a lot of life to this look.
MAC Cream color base ‘Improper Copper’ is lovely gold based highlighter and I have used it in my following FOTD to add some extra glow to the look . Notice the reflection at the cheek bones? Also notice that I have applied the blush not at the apples of the cheeks but more like along the cheekbone below it- not exactly contouring but something with a similar effect of giving definition to the cheek bone. This will really suit round face types and look great with the smokey eye as well.
This look is very similar to the one done HERE (Shown below)- but cheek/lip products used are different. The application of the blush is also different and you can see how much of a difference its making in giving a slimmer effect to the face.
Another possible look with this saree could be a bold red lip with gold eye makeup but since its a family wedding, I feel bold red lips may not be the best choice and since there is already a lot going in the saree with the vibrant red and gold detailing, its best to keep the colors of the makeup a little understated (but not nude!)
I would also suggest a mix of gold and red bangles for this outfit with golden earrings.
