What Clinique says about Anti-Blemish solutions liquid makeup :

The Product is listed as ‘ACNE Solutions’ instead of ‘Anti – blemish solutions on the website but I’m guessing its the same product.

My take on the product

I’ve had troubled oily acne-prone skin for a while now and none of the foundations I’ve tried till now were very  satisfactory. I have a slight pink undertone in my facial skin which makes finding the absolutely perfect shade a little difficult since most foundations available in India seem a little too yellow or orange for me. Moreover, none of the foundations I’ve used so far gave me good oil control without making my skin look dehydrated. After reading a lot about Clinique’s excellent foundations especially the one specifically meant for acne prone skin, I decided to visit the store and try out one for myself. I tried out the anti-blemish solutions foundation at the store and let it stay on for the entire day and once satisfied that it works well with my skin, I went and purchased it the next day.

The anti-blemish solutions liquid foundation comes in a oval bottomed transparent plastic bottle with a silver cap. The bottle is housed in a pink/lime green cardboard box with a soft floral print. The bottle appears really small but the quantity is same as most other foundation – 30 ml. You need to squeeze the bottle to take out the product though the nozzle. Even though pump dispenser would have been a more convenient packaging, this works OK too. I am generally careful while taking out the product so I’ve not had any mishaps of squeezing out too much product so far. It is always better to start with a small quantity of product and build up if required to prevent wastage especially with expensive products.

The texture of this foundation is a thick lotion-like. It is oil-free and non comodogenic. It spreads easily and you don’t need to rub/work it into the skin much, with barely 1-2 strokes it gets absorbed and achieves the look its supposed to give. The finish of this foundation is not quite matte but not dewy either. It gives a wonderful glow to the skin. I first tried this foundation on at the store and came back home to see how it works on my skin over the entire day. Even after 4-5 hours of application, my skin had a lovely glow, the kind you get after getting a facial done. It gives medium to almost full  coveragehides acne marks and redness quite well. It gives the skin that flawless look without looking too made up. It does not feel cakey or  heavy on the skin at all. Its decently good atoil control and for my very oily skin, it gives oil control without the need of touch ups for about 3 hours after which I need to dab a little at my T-zone with a tissue. But even if I do not touch-up, my face doesn’t look excessively oily or oxidized, it just acquires shine and a bit more dewy look which doesn’t look unpleasant at all.

The best part about this foundation is that it contains 2% salicylic acid which helps in fighting acne. It is perfect for acne prone people who are unable to wear foundation when suffering from breakouts. Even though its best to leave your skin breathing naturally when you’re suffering from a lot of break outs, its very reassuring to have an anti-acne foundation with you, in case you need to go out somewhere and need a little coverage on your skin. It doesn’t actually claim to work on acne i.e reduce it but it definitely does not aggravate it it either.

The shade ’04 Fresh Vanilla’ :

Its the closest shade they had to my skin tone which had a pinkish undertone. Its a little bit lighter than my skin tone but not in a way that’ll stand out or show up in pictures. This is the first foundation I’ve found with the pinkish undertone and it definitely suits my skin better than my other foundation which have a little more yellow/orange tones. There are 12 shades listed on the website and I’m sure I saw at least 8 in the store so hopefully most people should find a close match.

This is the best foundation I’ve tried so far- gives an illusion of flawless skin, gives a lovely glow even though it does not contain any shimmer in it, controls oil to a decent extent, despite giving good coverage does not feel too heavy or cakey on the skin. I would highly recommend it to all acne prone women. However, please try the foundation at the store and let it stay for a few hours to test it before investing in it.

I also found a mention of it one of Lisa Eldridge’s makeup videos HERE. For those who are not aware, Lisa Eldridge is a UK based makeup artist who has worked with a lot of celebrities and magazine editorials and has a series of amazing videos.

The skin of my arm is little more yellow than my face which is why the foundation appears a little ashy here :

This is how it looks on me. I’ve lightly topped it with loose powder but the glow is still apparent. I’ve also worn this foundation in my FOTD HERE.

Overall Verdict

It is a foundation meant for acne prone skin and needless to say, other skin types need not try it out. It contains 2% salicylic acid that helps in clearing out acne. It is the best foundation I have tried so far- gives good coverage to acne marks and redness without looking heavy or cakey, gives a nice glow to the skin (Without any shimmer), controls oil for a decent time and most of all, does not aggravate fresh breakouts and acne. It comes with a price tag but if you are unable to find a suitable foundation for your acne prone skin in drugstore brands, I highly recommend this one to all oily/acne prone skin type women.

Rating : 4.5/5 ( -0.5 for nozzle type packaging)

Hey Ankita nice review…. Is it better than TBS foundation which u had reviewed earlier?? Even I hv very oily skin but with less acne and little pigmentation. Wat wud u recommend.

Yes this one is better than the TBS one which will better suit combination skins- its makes my skin oily and a little sweaty while the Clinique one doesn’t. If you’re looking to buy a Clinique one, you could try some other one for oily skin. Basically salicylic acid acts as an exfoliant, it clears out the pores- so even with less acne this one wouldn’t hurt you. Its best that you consult with the Clinique SA, they’ll help you better. Or you could try MAC Studio fix foundation- its very good for oily skin.

Most foundations with medium- full coverage will hide marks and redness but this is the best I’ve tried so far. It also depends on how severe is your condition- its its mild, any foundation with medium coverage will help but if its a little severe, you would need to invest in a more specialized product like this one.

Thanks for the detailed review Ankita! I too have quite a lot of pinkish tone and usually all foundations which I have tried in the stores make me look really weird..like giving very unnatural yellow look or white look which I absolutely hate! Also many a times foundation makes me look dark other than give that glow..i guess they oxidise on me 🙁
I couldnt visit clinique store last time when i went to mumbai 🙁 let me see if I can find clinique in Pune..but thank you so much for the review..it really is a big help. but can this be worn everyday?

You’re welcome Parita 🙂 I know what you mean. I generally notice the color difference in sunlight since artificial lighting esp yellow lighting doesn’t help in detecting these differences. Yes this can be worn everyday, if you want a little less coverage, use a sponge instead of brush or fingertips.

hey Ankita lovely review, will buy this for sure, also have you come across any cream which actually reduces acne scars….i am having a hard time getting rid of them

Hi Rentu, glad you found the review useful. I have used Lacto calamine and it does help though it takes time. There are other creams available over-the-counter which have helped other people. I have not personally used any of these creams so I wouldn’t recommend. Its better to consult a dermatologist and get proper guidance before trying any heavy chemical formulations on your face. Creams with Glycolic Acid and Kojic Acid are helpful in reducing marks.

Just like you couldn’t find a foundation with enough pink in it,i couldn’t find one with enough yellow in it! They are either too orange, pink or neutral. The only foundation which matches me to the T is Yaby liquid foundation and i loooovvve it <3

This is giving your skin such a healthy glow! But this foundation range too doesn't seem to have many yellow based shades..otherwise i would've def got it coz my skin is acne prone and oily too.

🙂 Sireesha you should get the Yellow color corrector from Coastal Scents, the one Nupur reviewed.
This foundation is great! There’s another shade called Golden Beige which is on the yellower side and that was the one the SA was going to try on me but I asked for a pink based one. It might not be exactly for your skin tone but do try it if you get a chance. But you should definitely get the color corrector from CS!

  13. September 22, 2011 / 7:49 pm

costlier than mac i believe .. but i guess its important for days when you are really desperate to hide your face behind foundation and you know you cannot. Like the glow it gave to your face 🙂

The price is similar to MAC Shreya. In face, Studio fix comes for Rs 1700. This one is really good cos it gives decent coverage without looking too much and you can be assured that it would not aggravate the acne and pimples.

  14. September 22, 2011 / 10:07 pm

That’s a great idea! I have hormonal acne (I used to have daily breakouts but thankfully they have calmed down!) and i’ll definitely give this a try during that time.

Hey Ankita, I think you have hit jackpot with this foundation. Compared to tbs, this is bringing out the beauty of your natural skin tone without the oiliness. This has a much better turnout on your skin. Very nice. i have the same skin type as you. One question – is it fine to use a 2% salicylic solution even when outdoors. I have a feeling it may irritate/be too much for many skin types.

Hi Indira, what brands have you tried already? You should try some brands that offer shades for darker skin. You can find shades with the orange/red undertones in MAC and Lancome. Lancome has 18 shades (if I’m not mistaken) in the Teint Miracle and Teint Idole range. MAC has 14 shades in the Matchmaster range. Try the shade at the counter and request for a sample. Take the sample home and try it out a few times, a sample should give you 3-5 applications at least. Don’t purchase the full sized product till you find the best match while trying out the samples. Most high end brands will offer samples of foundations.

I wore this foundation for a full 12 hrs and it remained just the same…my skin felt radiant fresh throughout. ..
and most importantly it did not break me out……its the first time that I've worn a foundation for so long without developing break outs later…….
I love this foundation in a way even more than MAC Matcmaster…….

    Hi Ankita,

I have a yellow tone, sensitive and oily skin. Is this foundation good for me? The only factor that is making me confused is that, this is a pinky tone foundation. Please help.

    • June 7, 2015 / 2:17 pm

Hi, please check the Clinique counter to find the right shade with yellow undertone. The formula would work for your oily skin.
