My take on the product :
Few months back, I got really curious to try out lip/cheek tints or stains. After hearing a lot of good reviews about the Lakme lip/cheek stain, I decided to try it out but found out it had been discontinued. I swatched the The Body Shop lip/cheek stain but did not like it so much. Next, I tried the Bourjois counter and I was pleasantly surprized to find lip/cheek tints in 6 colors on display!
The product comes in a small jar packaging with a sponge tip applicator inside. The product is a water based tint that has water-like consistency and is quite well pigmented. The packaging is the same color as the product with a transparent cap. The colored packaging is good for identifying shades if you own many different ones. The applicator is of excellent quality but I dont find the overall packaging very user friendly. To take out the product, you need to hold the jar in one hand and the applicator using the other hand, and you need to blend the product with fingers so you need a surface to immediately place the jar down so that you can blend. However, this is not a problem while applying the tint on the lips because one can directly use the sponge-tip applicator and no blending using fingers is required. Since the product just says ‘water based lip tint’ on the packaging, I guess its not meant to be used on the cheeks, but I’ve been using it since some time and never faced any problem.
How to apply :
Apply the product in small dots on the apples of the cheeks and blend with fingers using a dabbing or small circular movement till the product is absorbed and evenly distributed. The tint is easy to blend and absorbs fast but one needs to be quick. If you let the small dots sit on the skin or take too long to blend, it will set and one would be left with small pink splotches!
The stain/tint lasts the entire day on cheeks as well as lips. Whenever I’ve to be out for long hours with less opportunities for touch-ups, I reach out for this product. Most long wear products tend to dry out the lips but this one doesn’t though I find the color gets uneven after a few hours. Also, it looks splotchy on chapped/dry lips. One needs to exfoliate skin and lips well before using this product. You can use gloss/balm over it and it does not alter the staying power of the product.
The product is well pigmented . 2-3 small dots applied and blended on the cheeks give enough color. The intensity can be built up by applying more. Its better to start with a small amount since the color adapts and warms on the skin for the next 2-3 min and if you go overboard , the only way to remove is cleanser.
I’ve tried applying it both under and over foundation and it works well both ways. I recommend newbies to try using it under foundation first so that in case you go overboard, the coverage from the foundation can tone the color down. You will of course need a little more product if you are wearing it under foundation.
The shade 84 Rose Pixel :
Its a beetroot pink shade that looks red in the swatch but gives a beautiful pink flush to the cheeks and a deep pink tint to the lips. If you want a lighter tint on the lips, use fingers to pick up a little product from the sponge tip applicator and apply that on the lips instead of using the applicator directly. The shade is gorgeous and gives a lot of healthy color to the face. It may not show up on very dusky skin tones though.
Apart from the slightly cumbersome packaging, one of the major cons with the product is that it stains the fingers when you blend it. Also, if you have breakouts or ruptured/injured skin on your cheeks or lips, it will highlight those and get patchy in that area.
I absolutely love this product and recommend it to everyone!
The GOOD about Bourjois rouge hi-tech lip cheek tint 84 Rose Pixel –
- Attractive packaging
- Excellent quality sponge-tip applicator
- Water based consistency- absorbs easily.
- Blends well.
- Color stays on entire day.
- Gives a natural flush to the cheeks.
- Does not dry out the lips.
- Great shade selection.
- A lot of quantity for the price
- Packaging is a little cumbersome for use on cheeks.
- Needs exfoliated and moisturized lips/cheeks otherwise it gets patchy.
- Newbies would need a little practice getting used to the application technique.
Overall Verdict : I think the formula of this lip/cheek tint is excellent- its blends and absorbs easily and gives a natural rosy flush to the cheeks and a deep pink tint on the lips with a small amount of product. The color lasts all day though it does get a little uneven on the lips after a few hours. Despite its long wear, it doesnt dry out the lips. You can use gloss/balm over it and it does not alter the staying power of the product. The application technique is not as breezy as blushes and lipstick and takes a little practice. It can also get patchy on dry/flaky skin but this is a problem faced with all stains/tints.
It comes in a wide shade selection and I’d recommend this product to those looking for a long wear stain/lip color!
