Today I’m reviewing NYX Powder blush in shade ‘Red’ which I picked up recently in my NYX haul from cherryculture.com. NYX blushes are known for their excellent quality and wide shade selection. I remember my Mum having the shade ‘Mocha’ few years back which was her favorite blush , to be worn only on special occasions!

My take on the product :
I am quite experimental with shades, be it eye shadows, lip colors or blush and NYX is one brand that’ll satisfy all craving for colors! I find that because of the red undertones of my skin, red shades tend to suit me well. This particular shade of blush from NYX is not a true red but a very pinked red with a matte finish. The shade appears like a close dupe of MAC Frankly Scarlet blush (Read Ikya’s Review HERE).
The packaging is sturdy but nothing very attractive but I’m not complaining looking at its price and quantity since the product itself is pretty good. The lid is transparent so you can easily spot shades if you own multiple of these. The texture of this blush is quite smooth and it is very very pigmented. With this shade, it is very easy to over board – the shade itself it pretty deep and a teeny amount of product gives a lot of color. While I was sold on the color and pigmentation, I did not like the blendability of this blush.
It doesn’ t blend easily and stains – which makes it last longer but who likes stained fingers while swatching 😐 The point where the blush brush touches the cheek seems to get the maximum color after which you have to blend, blend, blend to even out the color. This is my first powder blush from NYX so I’m not sure if this is a problem with all their powder blushes. If you’ve tried NYX Powder blushes, do drop a comment below (Mehak are you listening? 😛 )
A little extra work but the result is a gorgeous pinched cheek look. The color lifts the face completely and would match well with both pink and red lip colors. Even though it is a “RED” blush, it doesn’t look too unnatural – I find I can pull it off easily in the day time as well.
The staying power is pretty great. It lasts easily on my oily skin for 7-8 hours even without foundation/primer underneath. Post the 4 hour period, the color fades a bit but enough of it still remains. The quantity is a lot and since it is insanely pigmented, this red blush would last me a lifetime 😛
The GOOD about NYX Powder blush ‘RED’ –
- Sturdy, convenient packaging.
- Smooth texture.
- Very good pigmentation.
- A lot of quantity for the price.
- Very little amount required for each application.
- Great price!
- Beautiful shade- gives a flush of color to the face.
- Lasts all day long.
- Cruelty free – NYX does not test on animals.
- Doesn’t blend easily- needs a bit of work.
- Stains! (See my finger after swatching and intense wiping on a tissue?)
- Not easily available in India.
- Intensely pigmented- beginners may find difficulty in getting it right
- The color may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
This is how it looks on me in Natural lighting and Artificial lighting –
Overall Verdict : It is a unique pinked red blush with a matte finish- not a shade easily found especially in Indian brands. The blush in smooth in texture, is very well pigmented (a tad too much!) and stays on the entire day even on very oily skin without base. The color itself may look scary in the pan but gives a nice flush of pinky redness to the cheeks that looks very pretty. On the downside, it needs a bit of work to blend and the color is so rich that it tends to stain a bit. The quantity is a lot and the price is unbelievable! The shade would go well with both pink and red lip colors.
Highly recommended to everyone looking to try out a red blush!
Will I repurchase? In other shades, Yes!
