Oriflame power shine lipstick ‘Trendy Berry’ , ‘Red Ovation’ Review, swatches and FOTD

Hi everyone!

Today I’m reviewing Oriflame powershine lipstick in shades ‘Trendy Berry’ and ‘Red Ovation’. I picked up Trendy Berry few months back from the flyer because it was on a really good offer but never got around to wearing it until recently.

I generally don’t like any shimmer in my lip products which is why I barely used this lippie earlier. But last week when I tried it on, I was pleasantly surprized by how good it looked. I wore Trendy Berry for almost the entire week and picked up Red Ovation after that.

Price: Rs 329

Quantity: 1.6 gms

What Oriflame says about the product :

Lusciously smooth lipstick formulated to achieve ultimate mirror-shine. Metashine pearls drench lips in sparkling, 3D shine while rosehip seed oil and vitamin E moisturize. Exceptionally creamy formulation for easy application. Enriched with SPF 12.

Silver-coated pearls reflect the light like micro-mirrors for a high-lustre effect. Rosehip seed oil rich in fatty acids and Vitamin C helps moisturise and protect lips, naturally. SPF 12 protection-UV filters protect lips from the potentially damaging effects of the sun.

My take on the product :

This lipstick comes in a sleek silver packaging with a small label at one end with the color name. The silver packaging is classy and sturdy but you need to read the label everytime to identify the shades.

The texture of the lipstick is smooth and non-sticky balm-like. Single swipe gives sheer color- almost like a tinted balm which can be built up to intense color in 2-3 swipes. It contains perceptible shimmer and has a glossy finish giving a luscious and glamorous appearance to the lips. Even though the shimmer in non-gritty, I prefer wearing it over balm or applying clear gloss over it to play up the gloss and minimize the feel of the shimmer particles.

Typically it gives me 3-4 hours of wear but heavier meals in between can shorten its staying power. It smells deliciously fruity- like melons and I love reapplying it just for the smell and the balmy smooth feel.

It is decently moisturizing but as the color fades of the shimmer tends to remain giving a dry feel which is why I like pairing it with balm or gloss. If you’ve been shying away from lipsticks with shimmer, I highly recommend this range especially to women with thinner lips. The shimmer and gloss effect not only gives a glamorous look but also makes the lips appear fuller.

About the shades-

Trendy Berry: As suggested by the name, its a true berry pink shade that would suit most complexions. Can be used alone or with pink/clear gloss or just dabbed over another lipstick for some extra shine and shimmer. Since single swipe gives sheer color, it can be worn in the day time too and the color and shimmer can be built up for evening/party wear.

Red Ovation : Its not a very intense red but more like the color Nivea fruity shine lip balm in ‘Strawberry’ gives – like a coral pink based red shades. I find it a very wearable red. Those who shy away from reds can give this shade a try since its not a bright red.

The GOOD about Oriflame Powershine lipstick –

  1. Sleek silver packaging- classy , compact and sturdy.
  2. Smooth balm-like texture that glides easily on the lips.
  3. Single swipe gives sheer color- can be worn for an understated look.
  4. Buildable coverage in 2-3 swipes.
  5. Shimmer and gloss effect makes lips appear fuller and luscious.
  6. 15 shades to choose from.
  7. Can be worn alone or layered with gloss/balm or dabbed over another lipstick.
  8. Shimmer does not spread beyond lip area once it fades
  9. Has a very tempting fruity scent
  10. Moisturizing

The NOT-SO-GOOD about Oriflame Powershine lipstick –

  1. The color fades after few hours leaving behind shimmer
  2. The lipstick gets used up very fast- 1.6 g is very less quantity for the price
  3. The scent might bother those who prefer unscented products.
  4. Need an Oriflame consultant to obtain it
  5. The shimmer may not look flattering on those with very dry lips

This is how Red Ovation look on me –

Overall Verdict: It is balm-like lipstick containing perceptible shimmer and gloss that gives a fuller appearance to the lips. Can be worn in many ways- over balm, with gloss or over lipstick for added oomph. The color is sheer in one swipe making it appear like tinted balm on the lips which can be build up to full coverage in 2-3 swipes.

Highly recommended in you’ve never tried shimmery lipsticks or have thin lips. It smells awesomely fruity which some people may not like. At Rs 329, its is quite overpriced for 1.6 g of product but can be obtained on great discounts from the flyer.

Rating : 3.75/5

Will I repurchase? Yes.

From the description, this reminds me of the CoverGirl Natureluxe lip balms. I’m also not a fan of shimmer, nor do I think I can get oriflame over here BUT if they came out with a similar product with no shimmer i’d probably pick it up! Thanks for the review!

I don’t like shimmer either Eden-Avalon but this lipstick changed my mind! We don’t get Cover girl in India yet 🙁 I’ve heard their mascaras are really good!

Nivea strawberry is decently pigmented- more than the other tinted balms like Maybelline smooth and shin (or is it smooth n care?). I’d looking forward to trying out the new Lakme pot ones. Nivea pomegranate lasts much better and the formula is more moisturizing and pigmented also. It was my favorite for months(for college) before I switched to gloss and lipsticks for daily wear 😛
