Today I’m reviewing AVON simply pretty lipstick ‘Rich Terracotta’.
**A big thank you to Natasha for recommending me this shade as well as ‘Mango Mania’ which has become quite a hit now!**
Price: Rs 125 (I picked it up on offer for Rs 99)
Quantity: 3.2 g
What Avon says about the product : Smooth rich color with Vit E, Aloe extract and Jojoba oil to moisturize lips.
- Satin finish with a burst of radiant, blissful color
- provides full coverage
- Infused with Vitamin E, Aloe extract and Jojoba oil to keep lips soft and supple.
My experience with the product :
These lipsticks come in a very simple dark purply grey plastic packaging with just a tiny label with the shade name on it at one end. The packaging is quite dull frankly but at this price and quality I’m not complaining. The shade selection and quality of the lipstick makes up for the drab packaging. The regular ones generally come with a normal bullet but this one has a heart shaped one
The lipstick is quite pigmented though not very smooth. It is a bit drying so a balm or gloss is definitely needed under or over it. The best part about it is the lasting power of the lipstick. At this price, it gives very good pigmentation with about 3-4 hours of wear easily which goes upto 6 hours when used with a lip liner as base. It is quite opaque so will cover pigmented lips easily.
Picking out shades from the catalog can be tricky since the shades shown are generally not true to the real color.
The shade ‘Rich Terracotta’ : The shade is very difficult to describe- I guess it could be called an earthy coral pink going by the swatch. Its a mix of pink, orange and red but its not too bright or neon. It is almost like a pinker version of Avon simply pretty lipstick ‘Mango Mania’. It appears pinker in the swatch but looks warmer on the lips- more like a peachy brown with red undertones. I absolutely love how it brightens up my face without looking OTT or neon-ish. Its neither completely matte nor glossy in finish. It seems to have a a bit of pearl finish but I always top it with clear gloss so the pearl finish is not apparent. I find this lipstick a little harder and less smooth in texture compared to Mango Mania.
The GOOD about Avon simply pretty lipstick ‘Rich Terracotta’ :
- Very pigmented.
- Sturdy packaging
- Gives full opaque coverage.
- Lasts well 3-4 hours leaving behind a tint on the lips, lasts upto 6-7 hours with lip liner as base.
- Wide shade selection.
- Amazing price! Can be picked on offer (2 for Rs 149)
- Avon does not test on animals.
- Drab, dull packaging.
- Texture is not very smooth.
- Drying- definitely need gloss or balm otherwise it draws attention to the fine lines on the lips.
- Need a representative to obtain it.
- Swatches in brochure are misleading and not true to the real color.
Overall Verdict : It is one of the gems of Avon’s makeup range. The lipstick is very pigmented and lasts well which is frankly the most important things because dryness can be taken care with balm or gloss. The packaging is a bit dull and the texture is not so smooth but it a steal at Rs 125 and is generally on offer every 2-3 months (Rs 99 for 1, Rs 149 for 2). Picking shades from the catalog can be dicey but even the wrong shade picked out won’t hurt the pocket.
Highly recommend Mango Mania and Rich Terracotta to all looking for shades that brighten up the complexion without looking overly bright.
Rating: Keeping its price in mind, I’d rate it 4.25/5
Will I repurchase: Yes! Will also try out other shades.
